Marvel Rivals is gearing up for its mid-season update on February 21, 2025, bringing significant changes and new content to enhance the competitive experience. Here's what players can anticipate:
New Playable Heroes
The roster expands with the addition of the remaining members of the Fantastic Four:
The Thing: Known for his superhuman strength and durability, The Thing is expected to be a formidable Vanguard, capable of absorbing damage and protecting teammates.
Human Torch: With the ability to manipulate fire and fly, Human Torch will likely serve as a high-mobility Duelist, delivering swift and fiery attacks.
These characters join Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, who were introduced earlier in the season, completing the Fantastic Four lineup.
Ranked Play Adjustments
Initially, NetEase announced a mid-season rank reset, intending to drop all players by four divisions to align with upcoming content and balance changes. For example, a player in Diamond I would have been reset to Platinum II.
However, following substantial community feedback expressing concerns over the pressure of frequent rank resets, the developers have reversed this decision. Now, there will be no rank reset at the mid-season point. Players will retain their current ranks and scores moving into the second half of Season 1.
New Rewards and Requirements
To earn new rewards in the second half of the season, players must complete at least 10 matches in Competitive mode and meet specific rank conditions by the season's end. The rewards include:
New Gold Rank Costume: A fresh cosmetic reward for players who achieve Gold rank or higher.
Crests of Honor: Unique designs recognizing players who reach Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and One Above All (top 500) ranks.
These requirements ensure that only active participants in the current season's competitive mode can claim the corresponding rewards.
Balance Adjustments
The mid-season update is expected to introduce major balance adjustments to address current gameplay dynamics. While specific details are pending, the community anticipates changes to:
Healers: Heroes like Luna Snow and Mantis have been noted for their powerful healing abilities, particularly their ultimates, which can significantly influence match outcomes.
Storm: Following recent buffs, Storm has become a dominant force in higher skill levels, boasting the highest win rate among all heroes. Adjustments may be made to balance her effectiveness.
The developers have indicated that they will analyze hero pick rates and win rates to determine necessary balance changes, aiming to maintain a fair and engaging competitive environment.
Players are encouraged to stay tuned to official Marvel Rivals channels for detailed patch notes and further announcements as the update approaches.
